I got two emails from the same student. Actually it was the same email, just re-sent, I guess in case I didn't see it. Or maybe to emphasize that I hadn't responded yet?
In it a student says she didn't know she needed a password to complete a certain assessment due this morning at 8am. The password is included *every time* the assessment url is given in the syllabus, course calendar, online site.
Since this time I'm dropping everyone who has not completed the course contract and the assessment, it's pretty important, and I've been saying that since day 1, last Tuesday. I've sent two emails (Wed and Thurs) to the people who had not yet completed this requirement.
I guess what got me was this:
"I am praying someone gets in touch with me before morning"
after she listed the help desks that she had written to, presumably around 11pm. (actually had she posted to the Q&A board in the class, she had a good possibility that someone would respond).
It's not done yet this morning. I'm not dropping her, but I'm not very optimistic about her chances for successfully completing the course. Asking questions three days ago would be more effective than prayers 8 hours before the deadline.
sigh.
Drop her. End it now.

you're probably right. two more emails in the night last night -- she expected the course management system to be working and, of course, in every calendar and news note there's mention of downtime last night.
