quick little quizzes seem to be a big part of my online classes. my women's studies midterm survey finally had 100% of the folks saying not-too-picky, not-too-hard, emphasizing the main points, this time after 7 online semesters in a row. I'm writing about 15 new quizzes for the new online children's lit class. the folks who take the quizzes do well in the course discussions.
the quizzes don't really measure the depth of understanding as much as they look at -- did you read the article? did you watch the movie? mostly I aim for some questions that would not come up on wikipedia or in any other short summary. in other words, they have to have been there.
but the quizzes take tweaking. the new quiz on She's Not There -- the A students should have gotten As. 83% as the high grade means there was ambiguity in some of the questions.
back to work. at least the sun is shining. I'm making hay. don't intend to be writing quizzes next week in Cincinnati or the week after in Hawaii. or even next fall. at least not for this class.
Have you listened to the audio version of SNT? I loved it--especially Boylan's imitations of her grandmother and of her dog.
I'm following everything you're writing about your online classes--you're my professional development for the summmer. Thanks for posting everything.
