ouch. I am not attuned enough to the issues of weights/brackets/qualifications in wrestling and my son is pretty casual about it, too. but dang it, once again, just at the regional qualifier, he's up by .8 lb and bumped up into the next weight bracket. you'd think we'd learn since he did this last year. so that at the state tournament, like last year, he'll be up against kids who are 15-25 pounds heavier than he is.
this week he chose a baseball game instead of the last wrestling practice before the tournament, and we pretty much let him choose. these weeks when sports overlap he usually goes for the team sport, where it makes more of a difference if he comes or not. this time, I suspect, he missed out on the getting ready for regionals and we didn't even think much about it in the past 2-3 days.
he got totally wiped out (11-0), but still qualified for state since there were only 2 in his bracket. the other kid is a sweety. we know him from baseball, but he's at least 8 inches taller and about 20 lbs heavier than my son. he's also the current national champ. it's hard to watch when son says, "I could get hurt." he did come off crying, but his coaches helped. last week apparently the guy pinned the opponent in less than 10 seconds. so I'm supposed to be glad that it took so much longer this week against my son.
this is not my idea of fun.
