I miss John Lovas

I knew I'd miss him again when the school year started, but it's happened really fast. He helped me with assignments by sharing his own, suggesting questions and answering mine when I'd write to him. He was a mentor I never met and a colleague down a virtual hall. Today my comp II students wrote their writing autobiographies, based on an assignment of his. I am always blown away by how much some of my students write when asked about their writing experiences.

I haven't taken him off of my blog list yet. Maybe others get to his pages through mine and find his helpful comments. His memorial site is here.

Ditto. Yesterday I mentioned his passing to a colleague who had known him for years, and she was stunned. I thought that she already knew, so I was embarrassed to be telling her at the start of a meeting. I hope that 4C's has some kind of memorial in Chicago this year.

I'm sure they'll have a memorial at 4Cs. I miss him very much too.
